Helaine Barnett

Legal Services Corporation (LSC) President Helaine Barnett discusses the relationship between the concept of “justice for all “and low-income Americans’ access to legal assistance in a public speech at the Clinton School. Barnett’s presentation comes from LSC’s groundbreaking Justice Gap Report, issued in October 2005, reveals that more than half of those eligible to receive federally-funded civil legal aid are turned away due to lack of resources – more than a million people each year, most of whom are women with children. LSC funds 138 legal aid programs with 700 offices around the nation to help poor Americans gain equal access to the judicial system.
