Tom Mars

As senior vice president and general counsel for Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., Tom Mars oversaw the legal department, which is responsible for handling all legal matters affecting the company in its domestic and foreign markets. Mars served as Wal-Mart’s general counsel from May 2002 February 2009. In 1986, he became an associate of the Rose Law Firm, where he worked for Senator Hillary Clinton in the firm’s litigation section. In 1998, the Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee appointed Mars to serve as director of the Arkansas State Police until 2001. Mars is also chairman of the American Bar Association Minority Counsel Program Steering Committee. He is currently the executive vice president and chief administrative officer for Walmart U.S. He is also a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, the Leadership Advisory Council of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, and the Corporate Advisory Panel of the National Bar Association.
