Date: 11/27/2006
T. Boone Pickens, chairman of the private equity firm BP Capital Management, speaks to students at the Clinton School about his efforts to develop sustainable, home-grown alternative energy sources. According to Pickens, oil is the lifeblood of the U.S. economy that could soon run out because of the inability of supply to meet demand. Pickens also discusses the the importance of Congress and the EPA working to improve CAFE standards for motor vehicle production. In terms of alternative energy sources, Pickens sees natural gas as the primary substitute for gasoline because it’s clean, cheap and can be produced domestically. Pickens says, “All of these deals (energy alternatives) are going to work. Because the world is going to need all of the ideas all of the alternatives, everything is going to work. But your job here is to find the ones that work first not the ones the work last.”
