A retired four-star general, Musharraf served as the 13th Army Chief of Staff and 10th president of Pakistan. He assumed the Office of Chief Executive on October 12, 1999 and was sworn in as President on June 20, 2001. He served concurrently as President and Chief Executive until November 23, 2002 and continued as president until his resignation on August 18, 2008.
