Robert Goodwin joined the Points of Light Foundation in March, 1992 as executive vice president and chief operating officer, and has served as president and CEO of the Foundation since July 1, 1995. Previously, Goodwin served as executive director of the U.S. Department of Education's White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU's).

Robert Goodwin, president and CEO of the Points of Light Foundation, discusses how he became involved in the field of public service and its immense effect on his life in a public address at the Clinton School. In addition, Goodwin remarks on the growth of citizen engagement in civil work and the dramatic shift that has occurred over the last few decades in the recognized importance of public service. He discusses not only the work of the Points of Light Foundation but that of City Year and other public service organizations within AmeriCorps.
