The Tests of a Leader
Date: 5/2/2007

Harvard Business Review editor Tom Stewart discusses fostering leadership skills in business in a public address at the Clinton School. Stewart contends that most leaders are ultimately graded on how they first step into their position of leadership and how they handle and respond to a crisis. Stewart says, “One of the ways I think you can teach leadership or think about leadership is to think of leadership as an active response to certain tests, because if a person becomes a leader, he or she is put to the test all the time.” Leaders are also required to adapt and change over time, Stewart says, something that can be challenging for someone who is stubborn.
