A former leading journalist in Pakistan, Ambassador Husain Haqqani has served in numerous positions in Pakistani government and politics, including as spokesman for past Prime Ministers Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto. Named ambassador to the United States by Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani in April 2008, Haqqani is an associate professor for international relations at Boston University, as well as a co-chair of the Project on Islam and Democracy at the Hudson Institute in Washington, D.C. He was formerly a visiting scholar at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

Named ambassador to the United States by Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani in April 2008, Ambassador Husain Haqqani discusses the history of the U.S./Pakistani relationship and stated that progress had been made in the War in Afghanistan against both the Taliban and Al Qaida. He said his country is now “fighting for our own sake,” against the Taliban in a speech at the Clinton School.
